Point of the Month: Liver (LV) 3

Point of the Month: LV 3, Tai Chong (Great Surge)

Liver 3 (LV 3, Tai Chong) is an acupuncture point located on the top of the foot, in between the 1st and 2nd bones of the foot (metatarsals).

This point is commonly used during an acupuncture treatment, particularly for stress-related issues (tight neck/shoulders, irritability, headaches, etc).  LV 3 is a primary point to move energy in the whole body (or, in Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, unblock "Qi stagnation") and can be used for any of the following conditions:

  • Stress (in general)
  • Pain and/or tension anywhere in the body
  • Headaches, dizziness
  • Eye problems - blurred vision, red painful eyes
  • Menstrual issues - PMS, breast tenderness, irregular cycles, cramps
  • Digestive issues - nausea, constipation, IBS/IBD
  • Emotional issues - anger, irritability, insomnia, anxiety
