Massage at Stepping Stone Acupuncture & Wellness

Massage refers to manipulating superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various hands-on techniques, to enhance physical function, aid in healing process, release tension, and promote well-being.

Our skilled massage therapists combine a wide variety of massage techniques together in any given treatment, thereby tailoring your massage to your unique body and condition.

We offer four distinct kinds of massage appointments at Stepping Stone:

Massage Myofascial Release Sports Massage Deep Tissue Wellesley

Therapeutic Massage

These appointments encompass a wide range of techniques, depending on your preferences, your body, and what kind of issues you want addressed. These sessions may include Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, and myofascial release techniques. (Myofascial release refers to a manipulative bodywork technique that seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension stored in the connective tissue.)

Available in 60, 75, 90, or 120 minute sessions.

Orthopedic Massage

A specialized therapeutic treatment approach for treating pain and injury. An orthopedic massage therapist utilizes a number of techniques including myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, and scar tissue release. Treatments have a cumulative effect, so each session builds on the progress made in previous sessions, as the body heals and deeper layers of imbalance or pathology can be accessed and treated.

Available in 60, 75, and 90 minute sessions.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

This is a specialized gentle massage technique that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body, helping them into an area that can drain normally. It is often recommended after surgery to help the body recover and prevent swelling and edema. It can be a useful therapy to  reduce edema and deal with issues of chronic fluid build-up such as chronic sinusitis, inflammatory arthritis, chronic venous insufficiency, or hormonal swelling.

Available in 90-min sessions.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage is a specialized massage treatment for women during all stages of pregnancy to address aches and pains, improve circulation, and reduce stress.

Available in 60, 75, and 90 minute sessions.

Trigger Point Massage

This is a focused therapy treating muscles that produce symptoms of local pain, pathologies, acute injuries or limited range of motion. Sessions include an integration of techniques such as myofascial release, myofascial trigger point deactivation, and stretching. This differs from a Therapeutic Massage in that the duration of the session is spent on one focus area of pain. A full body massage is not included due to the focused nature of the therapy.

A myofascial trigger point is an area of sensitivity that can occur in any skeletal muscle, causing pain or a sensation that refers elsewhere from the local point.

Available in 60 and 75 minute sessions.

Available in combination with Therapeutic Massage in 90 sessions.
