Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching aims to pinpoint the root causes of your health issues, discomforts, or imbalances, and give you the tools to make small changes in your diet and lifestyle that can have long-term results. We know from medical research that a vast majority of chronic physical health issues today are caused by inflammation in the body, and one of the best ways of targeting inflammation is through diet and lifestyle changes. There is also increasing evidence that our mental health is also affected by inflammation and by our gut health – “it all starts in the gut.”
This means that Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching is appropriate for a huge variety of health issues!
Some of the most common ailments/complaints that we help people with are:
- Chronic Digestive Distress – chronic constipation, chronic bloating, IBS, recurrent SIBO, acid reflux, optimizing health with Crohn’s or Colitis
- Anxiety and ADHD
- Perimenopausal Symptoms – hotflashes, insomnia, weight gain, fuzzy thinking
- Chronic joint pain and inflammation
- Hormonal Imbalance
No two people are alike, and your Health Coach will work with you to tailor an individualized program to fit your needs. If you love meat, recommending a vegan diet will not serve you! Rather than ascribing to one dietary philosophy, our Integrative Nutrition Coaching Sessions are based in broad concepts of bio individuality, the integrative nutrition plate, a healthy microbiome, and primary foods (finding nourishment in all aspects of your life), with a goal of assisting you in learning the root imbalances at play and empowering you with methods of addressing them.
What to expect during your health coaching sessions
Your health history is discussed along with any current issues, food preferences, as well as your challenges and goals. Your unique lifestyle needs and desires are also taken into account, including schedule, family structure, skills, values and beliefs regarding food and healthy living.
Together the coach and client create a customized health and nutrition plan. We do not prescribe or endorse any particular diet because every single one of us is complex and different with unique lives, needs and bodies. We work with you every step of the way to develop a customized plan to provide you with the structure and guidance to reach your goals. Your coach may also provide you with recipe ideas, shopping advice, restaurant guidance, and lifestyle resources to optimize your personal nutrition program.
Follow-up appointments provide you with valuable time to evaluate the changes you are making, make adjustments as necessary, and set new goals as each smaller goal is achieved. Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching can be like peeling back layers of an onion – as “smaller” or more superficial health issues are addressed, you and your coach are better able to see and understand some of the deeper issues or imbalances that may be leading you to feel less than your optimal self.
How to get the most out of your Health Coaching
Do the work!
Your Health Coach will work closely with you to ensure that you are comfortable implementing any recommended changes – if not, you will find other options together! But in order to see the real lasting change, you must commit to doing the work in between sessions to let your body heal.
Commit to a plan:
Most of our Health Coaching clients use our 8-visit package. This is usually enough visits for you and the coach together to assess the issues at hand, understand the deeper imbalances, implement changes, adapt those changes to best suit you and your body, and set you well on your way to maintaining a healthy lifestyle best suited for your condition. For complicated cases or for clients who would prefer more guidance or a longer-term relationship, you are always welcome to purchase additional sessions or another package as needed.
Your health coach will make specific recommendations about frequency of visits but most clients come weekly for the first month and then space out visits to twice per month or monthly, depending on their case and the work they are doing.
We do offer one-time coaching sessions as well: these are usually best utilized if you have a dietary plan you are attempting to follow that has been given to you from another provider (doctor, naturopath, nutritionist, acupuncturist, etc) and you are looking for some targeted advice about how to implement that plan. Or if you just aren’t sure about what Health Coaching can do for you and want to try it out before buying a package!
